Wives
Lord Krishna had a total of 16,108 wives, consisting of eight principal queens and 16,100 other women. The 16,100 women were princesses who had been held captive by the demon Narakasura; Krishna rescued them and married them to give them social standing and a respectable life, as the world would not accept them otherwise.
- The eight principal wives: These queens, also called Ashta-bharya, were Rukmini, Satyabhama, Jambavati, Kalindi, Mitravinda, Nagnajiti (also called Satya), Bhadra, and Lakshmana.
- The 16,100 other wives: These were princesses whom the demon Narakasura had captured and imprisoned.
- The rescue: Krishna, aided by Satyabhama, fought and killed Narakasura to free the captive women.
- The marriage: After their rescue, the women feared they would be outcasts and committed to mass suicide. To prevent this, Krishna married them to grant them dignity and a respectable place in society. the-deeper-story-of-lord-krishnas-16-108-wives-a-tale-of-compassion-and-divinity—————————-————————— ————————— —————————
